I am a California native who has recently relocated to about as far upstate in New York as one can be without becoming Canadian.
It's like being in a new country. I am a Foreigner in a Foreign Land.
I'm not being dramatic (for once), it really IS that different here.
Once, after Dan had introduced me to someone and that person asked me where I was from and I gave my usual reply "I'm from Californiaaaa!", he started to laugh.
Dan: "You always sound so damn happy when you say that."
Me: "I AM happy when I say that!"
Dan: "You're all, "I'm from CaliFORNiaaaaaaa!" like it's the best thing in the world."
Me: "It IS the best thing in the world."
How can one NOT sound happy when they're saying "Californiaaaa!" It's a happy word. Try saying "New York" in a happy voice.
Not possible.
Also?
Most of them say it real fast and push it together, like "N'York."
Doesn't really make the angels sing Halleluiah, now, does it.
Anyhoo, I have three boys: Shea, 25... Kacey, 23... and Brennan, 22. They are the lights of my life. Shea is an artist and completing a degree in Graphic Design, Kacey and Brennan are in the Marines. I also have a lovely daughter-in-law, Danielle, who is married to Kacey. She and Kacey are honest to God the most ridiculously beautiful couple on the face of the planet. I'm not exaggerating because I'm his mother; it's a FACT, Jack.
Completing my life is my husband, Dan, who provides me with plenty of fodder for my blog postings.
I'm currently working on a book about a child with autism that I've worked with for 6 years. You can read all about it at The Kegan Zone: http://kegspage.blogspot.com
Hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy writing it!!!
